Development Services The Development Services Department (DSD) is comprised of 2 divisions. These include Planning and Building. These divisions are currently staffed by 11 full-time employees and supplemented with a student position during the summer months. Each division is lead by a manager, who in turn reports to the Director of Development Services. The mandate of the Development Services Department is to administer and manage a seamless and timely planning and building review and approvals process. Tightly coordinated efforts between the Planning and Building Divisions will help to facilitate sound development and redevelopment in the City and to improve the quality of life of residents. Building Division The Building Division is staffed by a Senior Building Inspector, 4 Building Inspectors and a shared Administrative Assistant. These employees are responsible for the administration of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and associated guidelines, the municipal building by-law, and the municipal property standards by-law. In addition, the Division also administers a public education program to inform local residents and professionals of key matters relating to local and provincial building and property standards legislation and policies. The mandate of the Building Division is to ensure that development, redevelopment and building maintenance in the City occurs in a manner that will safeguard the public health and safety. Planning Division The Planning Division is staffed with a Senior Planner, Intermediate Planner, Community Development Planner, Draftsperson/GIS Coordinator and a shared Administrative Assistant. The mandate of the Division is to foster community improvement initiatives through the management of current and long range planning initiatives, the City's land portfolio, municipal accessibility improvements, the City's Geographic Information System (GIS), and a variety of other special projects. |
