Grants are now available for businesses, building owners and not-for profit groups in the parts of Downtown Timmins, South Porcupine and Schumacher to stimulate new development and programming.

Grant application forms are now available from the Development Services Department at City Hall. Completed, eligible applications are reviewed and approved for funding by the Development Services Department on a "first come, first served" basis.

Grant program amounts vary by program and there is a maximum grant amount of $50,000 per building.

Tax Increment Grant Program


The Tax Increment Rebate Program is included as part of the City's Community Improvement Plan (CIP). This plan sets out grant programs for businesses and building owners in Downtown Timmins, Downtown South Porcupine and parts of Schumacher.

No Fee Zone for Downtown Development


The CIP areas are designated as "No Fee Zones" and fees, including permit fees, minor variance application fees and other fees, may be waived.

Facade Improvement Grant


Grants up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $15,000 to enhance the outer appearance of buildings (including signage).

Upgrade to Building Code Grant


Grants up to 50% of eligible costs to improve accessibility, develop upper storey residential housing, and improve health and safety for the building up to a $45,000 maximum.

Study Assistance Grants


Grants up to 50% of eligible costs up to $5000 for design, engineering or business plans.

Demolition and Tipping Fee Assistance


Grants up to 50% of eligible costs up to $50,000.

Festival and Event Grants for Not-for Profit Organizations


Organizations may apply for a Festival and Events Grant for 50% of eligible costs up to $3000 to host public events or develop programming in the downtown areas.
