Limited Edition 100th Anniversary Music CD Goes on Sale

November 26, 2009

TIMMINS, ON: As part of the City's ongoing efforts to celebrate its colourful past, a project engaging musicians that are currently living in the City or who came from here, was undertaken last June. Musicians from the region with an affinity for life in Timmins would also be considered for inclusion on the CD.

A public call was issued inviting musicians to donate an original song about the City and compete for a spot on an anniversary CD that would feature 15 tracks about the City of Timmins, life in Northern Ontario's great outdoors or work in the underground mines, the backbone of our community. The CD would feature a number of artists and a compilation of original songs about Timmins past, present or future in various genres. Artists selected would be provided with a professional studio recording of their original song, and would be part of something bigger, something that was 100 years in the making, a limited edition 100th Anniversary CD that echoes times gone by, denotes Timmins' rich heritage and celebrates our City through music.

The goal of the public call to action was to engage the residents of Timmins and in particular, those involved in the City's music industry to consider participating in an exciting anniversary project that would allow participants the opportunity to immortalize, through music, something they held special about the City they call home and to create a musical collection of songs that would celebrate our history while exposing the diversity of our community's local arts and culture. The compilation features incredible and passionate work from local musicians and will be well received by the many residents, past and present who will relate to the many stories told through music.

All entries were evaluated based on a number of criteria that included the originality of the song, voice quality, interpretation of the material, ease of performance and positive listener response.
